Installing the app

Install Honest Checklist for Jira from the Atlassian Marketplace onto your Jira Cloud site. Like installing any Marketplace app, this requires Jira site admin permission. Once installed, it is available on every issue in every project on that site — there is no separate per-project setup step.

Using the checklist on an issue

1. Open any issue and find the Checklist panel.
2. Type text and confirm to add an item.
3. Click an item to check or uncheck it.
4. Edit an item’s text in place, delete it, or reorder it, without leaving the issue view.

The panel shows your progress as “N/M complete (X%).” A new issue starts with an empty checklist — there is nothing to configure before you can start adding items.

Templates

1. Save any issue’s current checklist as a template, and name it, for its project.
2. Apply a saved template to any other issue in the same project to add the template’s items to that issue’s checklist in one click.

Templates are kept per project, so a template saved from one project is not offered on issues in a different project.

Blocking a transition until the checklist is done (optional, admin-only)

This is off for every workflow transition by default. A project or site admin turns it on, per transition, from Jira’s own workflow editor:

1. Go to Project settings > Workflows (or the global Workflows screen in site administration) and edit the workflow used by your project.
2. In the diagram view, select the transition you want to guard — for example, the transition into “Done.”
3. Choose Add validator and select Checklist complete (Honest Checklist) from the list.
4. Publish the workflow.

Once published, that transition is blocked until every item on the issue’s checklist is checked off. An issue with no checklist at all is never blocked by this validator. To turn it off, open the transition’s validators, remove it, and publish the workflow again.

FAQ

Does the free tier limit how many checklist items I can add?

No. There is no item cap on any tier.

What is the difference between free and paid?

Sites with 1–10 users use the app for free. 11+ users move to the paid tier, following Atlassian’s standard per-user Marketplace pricing. Both tiers get the same feature set.

What happens to my checklist if I move an issue to a different project?

The checklist is tied to the issue’s key at the time it was created. If an issue’s key changes — for example, after a project move — its checklist does not automatically follow. This is a known limitation.

Does the app use AI to generate checklist content?

No. The app does not call any AI/LLM service. It only stores and displays what you type.
